QUEEN NANNY - greeting card
Queen Nanny: 1683 - c.1733
Also known as Nanny of the Maroons, she helped to free more than 1,000 slaves under British rule of Jamaica. Her prowess with guerilla warfare tactics and long-range communication prevented the British from conquering the Maroons. This prompted the signing of a treaty in 1740 that brought peace, freedom, and land acquisition to the Maroons. Nanny Town, now known as Moore Town, was built on the land they acquired and still stands today. Nanny remains Jamaica’s only female National Hero.
